Symposium on “Challenges and Opportunities of Infrastructure Development in Borneo”

The recent online symposium on infrastructure development jointly hosted by The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Miri Branch and Curtin Highway Infrastructure Research and Innovation Hub (CHIRI) of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) saw Federal Senior Minister of Works Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Yusof and Sarawak Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin giving insights into the status of various projects such as the Pan-Borneo Highway, Sarawak-Sabah Link Road, Sarawak Coastal Road & Second Trunk Road and Kuching Urban Transportation System projects.

Themed ‘Challenges and Opportunities of Infrastructure Development in Borneo’, the two-day symposium was attended by over 200 participants from the public and corporate sectors and academia.

1st Peat Fire Conference

To raise the awareness of peat fires and know how they may be reduced, the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering and Curtin Highway Infrastructure Research and Innovation (CHIRI) hub, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Operating Officer and the Curtin Civil Society, organized the ‘1st Borneo Peat Fire Conference’ in December 2020. 1st BIM Symposium

In Dec 2019, CHIRI has jointly organized 1st Borneo Symposium with Department Civil and Construction Engineering and student-run Curtin Civil Society (CCS) of Curtin Malaysia. There were over 100 industry practitioners, academicians and researchers gathering to share ideas and experiences related to the use of BIM in engineering design and construction. One day before the symposium, CHIRI co-hosted a ‘CIDB BIM Proficiency Training: BIM Concept and Theory’ training course with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
